Snake River Brewing may have been born from simple beginnings, but they have certainly made a big name for themselves in the craft beer and Jackson Hole après ski world. With Wyoming having no previous blueprint to follow, the notion of opening up the state's first brew pub was no easy task. However the founders of Snake River Brewing, Albert and Joni Upsher, had a clear mission, “The world doesn’t need another beer, but a better beer!” With that in mind, they set out to find an open and inviting space in a non pretentious neighborhood where they could brew really great beer.
Why is Snake River Brewing Jackson Hole's Living Room?
In their 22 years in existence, Snake River has accomplished just that. The wide open design, exposed beams and beautiful mahogany bar creates a reclaimed industrial atmosphere. Walking into an atmosphere like this, welcomes guests in while the addition of quality food and award winning beer makes them want to stay.
This welcoming and tasty combination has earned Snake River Brewing the nickname, "Jackson Hole's Living Room," making it a wildly favorite après ski location with locals and tourist alike.
The Love of Outdoors and the Love of Beer Define Snake River Brewing
Since its inception 1994, Snake River Brewing Company has felt right at home in Jackson Hole. Beer goes hand in hand with outdoor recreation, no matter what the season, and Jackson Hole definitely has their share of people who enjoy both. In fact, it is the love of the outdoors and the love of beer that has become Snake River's mantra.
Demanding outdoor activities demand quality beer and Snake River Brewing has delivered on this, twice winning the Small Brewery of the Year award. It has also won other awards at The Great American Beer Festival and the World Beer Cup for their Zonker Stout and Pakos IPA reviewed below.
Zonker Stout 6.0% ABV
I like a good stout during après and Zonker is one of my favorites. Its deep black color and caramel chocolaty taste is the perfect combination that I need to warm me up after my day of lapping the mountain finishes up. It also doesn't hurt that Zonker stout has been recognized time and time again as one of the best foreign style stouts and has enough awards to make others bow in its presence.
Pakos IPA 6.8% ABV
Although this doesn't have quite as many accolades as the Zonker Stout, it is still an award winning fan favorite and worthy après ski beer. Named for their mascot Pako the dog, this IPA is certainly not short on hop flavor thanks to its Simcoe and Columbus hops blend. Not knowing what to expect, the hops definitely smacked me around a bit, but as I buckled down for the ride, I came to appreciate and enjoy that hoppiness. I would recommend this beer to any hop fanatic looking for a good apres ski beer.
