As the Covid-19 outbreak rages on, one of the largest issues facing medical professionals is enough supplies. From testing kits, to masks, to ventilators the struggle to keep up with demand is real. Recently, they have been receiving help from an unlikely source, the winter sports community.
In an effort to provide protective eyewear for frontline workers, a New England-based company is asking skiers and snowboarders to donate their goggles. Goggles for Docs was started by Jon Schaefer, co-owner and general manager of Catamount and Berkshire East ski areas. Their mission is to get new or used goggles into the hands of medical workers who have no eye protection while treating Covid-19 patients.
Goggles for Docs An Instant Success
A brilliant idea and noble cause Goggles for Docs was an instant success. In the first three days alone the website had 30,000 hits and donated 5,700 goggles to health care workers. Not surprising as skiers and snowboarders are known for their tendency to rally socially for worthy causes. Goggles for Docs certainly checks that box and to this date they have rallied to donate 6,323 goggles!
Teaming up With Reverb for A Virtual Après Ski Series
As amazing as this start may be, there is always a need for more. In an effort to gain further attention Goggles For Docs has started their own virtual après ski series. Now in its third week you can tune in to the Reverb Facebook page for the latest on which apres ski music acts will be performing and when. Reverb is a non profit that supports social issues like this by uniting people through music. Last week saw DJ Logic and Recycled Percussion perform, and it just keeps getting better. Tune in this Friday at 7 EST for KT Tunstall and a special opening appearance by two-time Olympic golf medalist, Mikaela Shiffrin.
