Do you remember the day you shared your first beer with your dad? I'm not sure that I remember the exact day but I can certainly remember the beer. Coors Light.
A Time When Garage Beers Were King of the Hill
Don't shun me. It was in a time before the craft beer explosion. Coors Light is what we had in the fridge back then. That and Heineken when Dad really wanted to class things up. When I was coming of age, garage beers were still in. Beers like: Miller High Life, Hamm's, Pabst Blue Ribbon and more were produced for the blue collar masses. Light, crisp and refreshing they complemented a hard day's work well and served as the perfect all day sipper on the weekends.
Craft Beers Made For Day Drinking With Dad on Father's Day
Nowadays, craft beer is all the rage. Can you blame everyone? It's just so good. Showing up to your dad's with a case or two on Father's Day will definitely bring a smile to his face. From IPAs to Stouts, we have plenty of recommendations on our craft beer blog to choose from. However, this Father's Day, let's kick it old school in a new school way. Let's bring dad a Father's Day gift that he'll love, craft beers that throw it back to the days when garage beers were king. Ones that are light enough for day drinking but still pack the flavor that we're looking for in this new age of craft beer.

When we had Roadhouse Brewing co-owner, Gavin Fine, on the Beyond the Après podcast, we spoke extensively about his growing up in the Midwest. There he was brought up on some of the great garage beers of the time. A light and crisp pilsner with a touch of bready sweetness, Highwayman is Roadhouse Brewing's craft beer tribute to those beers.
Oberon Ale - Bell's Brewery

Oberon is so good that, in Michigan (where Bell's Brewing hails from), Oberon Day is a holiday. With flavors such as banana, spice and a touch of citrus, Oberon is a classic example of what a wheat beer should be. It's the perfect summer ale. Full of flavor, yet still light and refreshing. It's the beer that I drink all summer long and there's no doubt a few of these are in my future for father's day.
Lawn Party - Crux Fermentation Project

It's more than guaranteed that there will be a backyard BBQ or two on Father's Day, right? If so, Lawn Party Golden Ale is a must. It's basically the signature beer of backyard day drinking. Crux never fails and Lawn Party is a great example of that. Slightly floral with a touch of hoppiness and a little bit of pine, it's a tasty and refreshing choice your dad will love.
Fresh Catch - Narragansett Beer

Narragansett is known for their original lager. It's basically the east coast king of garage beers. Their Fresh Catch is a refreshing tribute to the fishermen of the east coast. Medium bodied, crisp and clean it has notes of grapefruit and orange that will be an excellent complement to some fresh buttery seafood you'll be chowing on with Dad on
Green State Lager - Zero Gravity Craft Brewery

As co-owner and guest on Beyond the Après podcast, Matt Wilson once described it, "Green State Lager is simply the best beer ever." Okay, maybe it's not on any top ten lists of highly acclaimed beers but drink it and you'll understand what he meant. One sip and you'll realize that Green State is a classic, easy drinking lager. Bready, slightly citrusy and with a touch of honey sweetness, it's flavorful yet very easy drinking craft beer that you and your dad will want to drink everyday, not just on Father's Day.
