It's hard to imagine a more fun holiday than St. Patrick's Day. It's a wonderful religious holiday, deeply rooted in Irish culture and celebrating the death of the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick. Ah, who the hell am I kidding? It's a day where everyone pretends that they are Irish for the day and drinks butt loads of beer. Based on history or not, what does seem to be rooted in culture (of Vermont) is Okemo Mountain's annual Sugar Daze music festival held, this year, on St. Patrick's Day. Drawing on the history of Vermont's sugar makers tapping the trees to collect sap to make syrup, Okemo is hosting a musical celebration featuring none other than 90's rock sensation, Blues Traveler.
Okemo's St. Patrick's Day Offers Fun for the Whole Family
If you have ever been to a mountain on St. Paddy's Day, you know that it is far from average, and Blues Traveler is the culmination of what is going to be an amazing day for all at Okemo Mountain. Kiddies, keep your eyes open for cut out shamrocks hidden all over the trails and if you are lucky enough to find one there will be a pot of gold, I mean a bag of goodies waiting for you when you turn it in at the Clocktower Resort Services. If you want to kick your après off a little early, head down to The Sitting Bull which will be hosting a St. Patrick's Day party from 3-6 featuring musical guests, Gypsy Reel. Once that is over, head down to the road to The Killarney and keep the après all St. Paddy's Day party going with traditional Irish fare and even more Celtic music.
Jackson Gore Inn Courtyard Become a Concert Venue Complete
Your other option is to just head over to the Jackson Gore Courtyard which by 3 pm will have been fully transformed into a concert venue and ready to tantalize your ear drums with a variety of bands. The music starts at 3:30 p.m. with The Voice Semifinalist, Braiden Sunshine and the young, blues rock sensation, Jake Kulak. Then The Pete Kilpatrick Band who has played with the likes of Dave Matthews and Pearl Jam takes the stage at 5 and will have you more than warmed up for Blues Traveler to rock the courtyard starting at 7. As if this is not enough, there will also be food tents and, of course, a beer garden (it is St. Patrick's Day, after all) for your culinary delight. Admission to the Sugar Daze concert is free and if you want to up the ante, there are a limited number of vip tickets available for purchase. Either way, you are bound to have an incredible St. Paddy's Day rocking out to Blues Traveler and taking in everything else that Okemo has to offer.
