"Everyone loves dogs," my good friend and integral member of the All About Après Ski Team Wally, said to me. "You need a dog as your après ski mascot. You need a St. Bernard," he pressed on." Despite actually having a St. Bernard named Moose a few years back, I was hesitant at first, and not willing to commit right then and there. I didn't see it. I needed to sleep on this idea, I needed a second opinion or two.
So that's what I did, and the more I thought about it and the more people that I chatted with, the more the notion of a St. Bernard as our All About Après mascot appealed to me. After all, St. Bernards are iconic in mountain culture, with a history that dates back to the 18th century monks who used them as a rescue dog in the snowy St. Bernard Pass (I'm thinking that's how they got their name). Beyond being a sturdy rescue dog, they are a fun and lovable house pet. I know...I had one.
Sure they can be a bit drooly at times (sorry Moose, it's true) but what other dog carries a barrel of alcohol with them as they hit the slopes? If that doesn't scream apres ski, then I don't know what does.
And with that, Après the St. Bernard was born.
