Rivalry Renewed: Park City Aiming to Break Longest Shot Ski Record Once Again

Competition as a whole is great. It's the part of our DNA that keeps us going. This is especially true when that competition is against your rival. The passion in any good rivalry can elevate any contest to new heights. Neither side ever wants to lose sometimes to the point where you feel like you can compete forever. You know what I mean, Bird vs. Magic; Yankees vs Red Sox; UNC vs. Duke; Park City vs. Breckenridge.

WHAT!?

Yup, you read that correctly, Park City vs. Breckenridge is quickly becoming one of the best competitive rivalries in all of the United States. In what, you ask? Only the coolest competition ever...the world shot ski record.

Park City Hosts 4th Annual Shot Ski Event

Park City 4th Annual Shot Ski Event

For the fourth consecutive year, Park City is aiming to break the record for the world's longest shot ski once again. They were the first to set the original record back in the fall of 2017. However, in the true spirit of one upmanship, Breckenridge topped it later that winter at their annual Ullr Festival, a back and forth that has gone ever since.

This Saturday October 12, that rivalry will be renewed once again as Park City Sunrise Rotary Club and High West Distillery are refilling glasses for Park City’s 4th Annual Shot Ski Event. 1,310 Park City Shot-takers will assume their positions along Park City’s Historic Main Street to simultaneously tip their glasses of tasty High West whiskey in an effort to break Breckenridge's current mark 1,299.

“The Park City community support of this event continues to grow every year, and we have no doubt we’ll be the new shot ski record holders come fall,” said Park City Sunrise Rotary Club member Connie Nelson.

Put that in your shot and drink it Breckenridge!

Park City Rotary Club Gives Back

As fun as a shot ski rivalry between two incredible après ski towns can be there is a charitable component to all of this that they are also looking to surpass. All proceeds will benefit the Park City Sunrise Rotary Club’s Grant Program for 20 community groups and last year they raised $29,474.57. However, there is always opportunity for growth as Connie Nelson fully understands, "“We are excited about our ambitious goal to raise $40,000 for our grant program and see how this fun, lively event will go on to serve our community.”

Filling the Shot Ski and Lifting Spirits With High West Whiskey

Fun and lively, for sure. High West Whiskey will fill shot glasses again this year as the event’s presenting sponsor and a $25 ticket gets you a spot on the shot ski. It also includes a token to enjoy a High West specialty drink at one of several after-party locations including High West Distillery & Saloon, Wasatch Brew Pub, No Name Saloon, OP Rockwell and The Cabin.

Now that is the way you fire back at a rival. Park City sees you Breckenridge and after this Saturday, the spirit will be in your glass...so to speak.
