If you are looking at lists of the top après ski destinations in the world, no matter what the publication, chances are it is going to include High West Distillery & Saloon. Located in Park City, Utah near the bottom of the town lift, they distill a variety of fine whiskey such as Rendezvous Rye, Campfire and American Prairie reserve. They are also happen to be a James Beard award winning restaurant making High West Distillery the world's only ski-in gastro-distillery and a one-of-a-kind après ski location.
High West Distillery is located in the historic section of Park City inside two buildings, a Victorian era house and livery stable, that were originally built in 1914. With that in mind, all a skier has to do is hop on Park City ski resort's Quittin Time trail and schuss their way down to this fine establishment. At one time, this was the actual distillery which has since grown and moved, it is now a rustic showroom and hopping après ski bar. Walk in the door and instantly be transported back in time. The old wood architecture and wild west culture, including a general store, bottles on the wall and country blue grass music, gives you a glimpse of a bygone era. However, taste the food and the drinks and you'll come to find out that despite its old-time looks High West Distillery is well versed in the modern culinary scene.
High West offers up a large variety of tasty après ski treats that often include their amazing whiskey in the recipe. Replenish your ski drained stores by carbing up with their pretzel and beer cheese, a delicious dish served with a cheese dip that is made from a combination of beer and their whiskey. Need a little more? You can't possibly go wrong with the High West Burger and a side of Mac and Cheese. The Bison and Beef blend burger is topped with a delectable combination of two cheeses, glazed sweet onions and crispy fried shallots. While the pork rind crust on top of the Mac and Cheese is so next level, it's to die for.
With all of this amazing food, you'll need a drink or two to wash it down. If you've never had High West whiskey before, I recommend ordering up a flight of their which will both warm you up from your day on the mountain and give you an idea of what a variety of their Core Four whiskey's taste like. You can also branch out and give one of their creative cocktails a try like their famous Dead Man's Boots. This, the most popular cocktail at High West, combines their Rendezvous Rye with tequila, lime juice and ginger beer to create quite a mouthwatering cocktail. Be forewarned though, this is no sissy drink and will either prime you for a good night or putting your ass to bed.
