It should come as no surprise that Martin Luther King Weekend is one of the busiest ski weekends of the year. Coming off the brief lull that follows the holiday week and the new year, many families are anxious to return to the slopes for this second phase of the ski season. Not to be left out of this equation is my very own family who is raring to go after a month layoff, thanks to some really crappy warm weather to end the year. However, we are stoked to return to one of our favorite family mountains, Mount Snow, not just to get back out on the hill but to take advantage of a weekend full of festivities for all ages.
Start Your Weekend off Right With a Trout River Brewing Beer Pairing Dinner
If you are looking to bail out of work early on Friday or even take a "sick day" (cough, cough) you now have even more reason to do so. Kick off your holiday weekend right with one of Mount Snow's incredible beer pairing dinners. This edition with feature craft beers from one of my favorite Vermont breweries, Trout River Brewing paired with delicious food served up by executive chef, Michael Giorgio and his staff. I know Chef Giorgio personally and have talked and drank beer with him in the past. Trust me, this guy is as passionate and knowledgeable about our favorite sudsy libation as they come and there is no doubt that he will be featuring Trout River's best right alongside the five delectable courses of apres ski food that his staff is preparing. You may even learn a little something as each course and its pairing will be analyzed and explained for your listening pleasure. Good food and good brews is the perfect start to what promises to be a fun-filled weekend.

Bud Light Concert Series: Pink Talking Phish
What's a ski weekend without some great live music? Ummmm, nothing and the peeps at Mount Snow know this. That's why they continue to feature some of the finest bands around at the legendary Snow Barn. This weekend it's Pink Talking Phish. Adults looking for a night cap should absolutely take in what promises to be quite an experience. What happens when you combine music Pink Floyd, Talking Heads and Phish? Simple, you get the the unique musical stylings of Pink Talking Phish. Each band's music was truly its own and completely different from the other. Yet, somehow the Pink Talking Phish have managed to smoothly mesh the music of these three celebrated bands into one spectacular show. So much so, that it is a must you check them out. So hire a sitter and make it a point to take in at least one of the two nights that they are rocking the Snow Barn.
Celebrate Torchlight Parade and Fireworks
Skiing is such a great sport for families and it is important to make sure that the kiddos are entertained as well. Trust me, I know. My family ski days are filled with hot chocolate, cookies and those awesome rice crispy treats available in Mount Snow's base lodge. But, just because the day ends doesn't mean the fun has to for your family. In fact, when the sun dips below the horizon, things at the mountain really light up. Light up, that is, in the form of Mount Snow's ski and snowboard instructors cascading down the mountain carrying torch lights immediately followed by an incredible fireworks display. So grab a few extra rice crispy treats and hot chocolates and head over to the area between the Cape House and Clock tower for the best show on snow.
