Pennsylvania Skiing Made Memorable at Bear Creek Mountain Resort - All About Apres Ski

Pennsylvania Skiing Made Memorable at Bear Creek Mountain Resort

With all three of my daughters playing field hockey at a club in Pennsylvania it is no understatement when I say that I spend more time in Pa that any other guy from central New Jersey. Inevitably, we now have a whole slew of friends from the area who, fortunately enough, are all skiers and snowboarders. That said, when a few of them started raving about Bear Creek Mountain Resort, I knew it was time to plan a visit.

Always down to ski and ride with new people, we decided to make it a gathering. My daughter was thrilled at the chance to meet up with her teammates and their families on the slope. Similarly, I couldn’t wait to reconnect with some old high school friends who I looped in for the trip. The idea of blending skiing, family fun and familiar faces was too good to pass up.

A Day Well Spent at Bear Creek Mountain Resort

Nestled in the Lehigh Valley, Bear Creek Mountain Resort may not be the largest mountain you’ll ever ski. However, what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in charm and versatility. Conveniently located within easy driving distance of central New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area, Bear Creek is a perfect getaway for those seeking accessible winter fun.

The mountain itself offers 510 feet of vertical and 23 trails and terrain parks spread out over 86 acres. Catering to all skill levels from greens that are perfect for beginners to a few black diamonds that give seasoned skiers a little something to work for. My family, friends and I spent the entire day on the slopes with barely any breaks. The efficient lift system and well-maintained trails kept us moving, and the excitement never waned.

Compact Layout Fosters Community

Family Ski Vacation

One of the things that struck me most was how the compact layout of the mountain fostered a sense of community. We we were able to ride the lifts regularly with friends, cheered each other on from the base and shared stories over drinks by the firepits outside the lodge. We even met a few new people along the way, like the one guy who would store his plastic gallon jug of water just off to the side in the bushes at the top of the lift. He was quite a character that we got to know over our shared water breaks throughout the day.  It’s the kind of place where everyone knows someone, yet there’s always room to meet new faces.

Après Ski Done Right at Bear Creek Mountain Resort

After a full day of skiing, Bear Creek’s après ski scene truly came to life. With the temperatures hovering near freezing, we kicked things off with a few cold beers outside, soaking in the view as the last of the afternoon skiers glided down the slopes under the glow of the lights. The courtyard between the lodge and the mountain buzzed with energy, anchored by the much-loved Waffle Cabin and a New Trail Beer truck pouring slopeside brews.

Swapping stories of the day's runs and reminiscing about ski trips past, our crew found the perfect balance of laughter, good drinks, and crisp mountain air. It was a picture-perfect way to wind down and celebrate a day well spent.

Keeping Après ski Going at The Grill at Bear Creek and Trail's End Cafe

Given that we were there for the night, we felt it was important to at least have one après ski drink at the Grille at Bear Creek. This cozy yet vibrant spot located just inside the main lodge is perfect for unwinding. The menu offered everything from small bites like the House-Brined Wings to hearty dishes such as the Flat Iron Mac and Cheese. For us, it was just a local craft beer from the rotating tap list paired perfectly with sore legs and big smiles.

Ultimately, we headed over to the Trail’s End Cafe for a more laid-back vibe. This hidden gem served up delectable comfort food and a killer hot chocolate for the kids. Watching the sun dip below the horizon while sipping on more local beers and enjoying the live solo act they had playing that night was a fitting way to end the day.

Spacious and Comfortable Resort Accommodations in Pennsylvania

Staying at Bear Creek Mountain Resort allowed us to immerse ourselves fully in everything the resort has to offer. Our queen suite was more than spacious enough for our family of five, with room for everyone to relax and recharge. The thoughtful layout included a cozy sitting area, a mini kitchenette and enough sleeping arrangements to keep everyone happy.

Waking up on-site meant we could hit the slopes early without the stress of a morning drive. The accommodations struck a perfect balance between rustic charm and modern amenities, giving us the best of both worlds.
