June 2, 2017 Roxbury, NY: As the seasons change, Plattekill Mountain in Roxbury, NY is changing its summer offerings for 2017. Best known for featuring one of the longest mountain biking seasons on the East Coast, this year, Plattekill will be offering biking on a more limited basis; instead, shifting its warm weather focus to the expansion of its wedding venue operations and private catered events.
Mountain biking will be open to the public the first two weekends of July and the first weekend of August, September, and October in conjunction with their free Saturday Music on the Mountain concerts. “Our decision is meant to create more of a festival-like setting,” explains Plattekill Marketing Director, Danielle Vajtay. “We hope these efforts will bring more people to the mountain on specific weekends where guests will find all the activities offered.” Last year, Plattekill’s concert series proved very successful and this year, the business plans to synergize efforts by having the biking and chairlift rides open during concert weekends—the first of these being July 1-2.
By freeing up the summer calendar, the mountain will be available for a variety of private use, including corporate group functions in the base lodge, private parties, and the ever-growing rustic chic wedding business. In an effort to expand weddings specifically, the mountain offers mountaintop wedding ceremonies, complete with chairlift access to the summit for all guests, which and has become a popular choice.
Additionally, the mountain’s 400 acres of terrain is also being promoted for private use for special events like adventure and endurance races, testing grounds for bicycle manufacturers, and biking and hiking for summer camps. The resort also boasts a large expanse of land for camping, lawn games, and picnicing.
