Unless you live under a rock, you know that the 10th annual Spring Gruv has been taking place at Park City Mountain Resort for a little over the past week. On a normal day, PCMR is a pretty epic spot filled with great skiing and riding as well as an apres ski scene that is near the top of my list. Add in Spring Gruv and this already good time is magnified to its fullest. Thanks to the daily FREE concerts around the resort and this weekend's 21st annual pond skimming competition Spring Gruv is the kind of party that makes you want to après all day.
21st Annual Pond Skim to Highlight This Weekend's Festivities
The pond skim is spring skiing's right of passage marking the transition from the cold of the winter into the warmth of spring no matter where you call home. However, Park City's pond skim is arguably one of the most spectacular across the country. The contestants go all out with some of the wildest costumes they can dream up as they skim across the 100 foot pond set up near Red Pine Lodge. Spectators will need a lift or gondola ticket and I encourage you to make the trek over, grab a beer and cheer on your favorite contestants.
Spring Gruv is Fun For the Whole Family
The Pond Skim may be the highlight of it all, however that is merely the tip of the iceberg, so to speak. There will be music all weekend long that includes headliners: Crywolf, Garrett Lebeau, and Jordan Saucier. Don't forget to bring the family too so that the kids can meet the avalanche dogs at the summit, watch a juggler at the Park City Base area and fill up on all the s'mores they can eat while roasting them in the Canyons Village fire pits.
