It's been well documented just how bad last year's ski season was here in the east. Old man winter did us no favors providing us with limited snow and unseasonably high temperatures. In fact, I can remember skiing at Stratton Mountain over the Vermont Open weekend, which is in early March, with nothing but a t-shirt on. There was soft snow, puddles and bare patches everywhere. I could remember thinking to myself, how are they going to possibly make it to early April to host Minuszero Festival, an Electronic Dance Music festival predicated on skiing and riding while the concert is going on. Sure enough, thanks to the amazing Stratton Mountain maintenance crew, they did, but not before closing for a week and moving all the snow from other parts of the mountain to the front and creating a trail or two down the face. This unprecedented and incredible feat got Minuszero off without a hitch and even secured the return of this epic festival for the 2017 season.
Stratton, the Perfect Location for Minuszero
Minuszero is a multi-day festival that combines the joy of skiing and snowboarding with the sounds of electronic dance music. With two stages set up on the slopes, you can ski and ride all day long with the likes of Bassnectar and GRiz playing in the background at the base stage and Auten and Average Joe playing at the summit stage. Don't feel like hitting the slopes? Then hang out on the famous Grizzly's deck and take in the amazing view while listening to the music. New this year is the village stage. A smaller more intimate setting that will be playing house and techno music allowing you to hang at your favorite village bars like Mulligans, Bar 802 and the new "Chill Out Zone" at The Firetower. And don't forget The Green Door Pub, will be hosting the kick off party tonight featuring Lucid Noise as well as other parties throughout the weekend. The best part of it all is that, thanks to Stratton's all-inclusive accommodations, you can park your car for the weekend, party all day and all night and then stroll back to your room to do it all again the next day.
