Spring is here and with it comes festival season. Mountains around the country have already begun lining up some of their most exciting events as they compete to attract skiers who are starting to pack it in in the waning days of the ski season. For me, these are some of my favorite weekends of the year...in a bittersweet sort of way. Warmer weather creates more opportunities to have even more fun but the impending season's end looms in the not so distant future. Yes, nothing brings people together better than a good mountain festival. I love them all, but when that festival involves BBQ my interest is elevated to new heights.
As my late, great idol, Anthony Bourdain once said, "Barbecue may not be the road to world peace, but it's a start." And, in a similar way, so too are spring mountain festivals. People come together looking for some late season enjoyment like this weekend's Bumps and BBQ Party at Hunter Mountain.
Bumps, Bar and BBQ Right on the Mountain
Hunter Mountain events are always a sick time and this Saturday they will celebrate all that is great about spring skiing. Soft bumps, delicious foods and good times are the very definition of the warm weather mountain days. That is exactly what will be in play as Hunter hosts their second annual Bumps and BBQ Party. As the warm (ish) sun of March climbs higher in the sky, casting its heat down on the slopes, those hard, crusty moguls of late February begin to soften. Skiers love nothing more than getting sendy on these newfound softies, slicing through them like a hot knife through butter. There is no doubt that conditions like this will have the skiers' game at an all time high as compete for this year's Bumps and BBQ title. What's waiting for them at the finish line, besides bragging rights?
A pretty sweet party and BBQ event presented by Bud Light. With live entertainment, a Bud Light beer bar and the BBQ area set up on the mountain. Talk about some sweet après-ski activities, this is the ultimate place for everyone to gather and have an amazing time. And as if this isn't enough, be sure to head to The Main Bar in the base ski lodge when the on-mountain fun is over. That's where I'll be rocking my après-ski clothing enjoying some tasty craft beers and the live B-Boyz performance at their après-ski party. See you there. Cheers!
